Our Team

Jim Oakes is the founder and president of Oak-Met Tech Resources LLC (OMTR). He did this after a successful career as a technical and operations executive in the tungsten and hardmetal industry spanning over 3 decades. Since its inception in 2014, OMTR has provided consulting services to numerous companies interested in the materials technology, supply chain security, cost control, operational excellence, product development and acquisition opportunities to companies involved with high temperature and strategic metals.

During his corporate career Mr Oakes was responsible for identifying and developing strategic technologies and business opportunities to drive growth in automotive, aerospace, defense, medical and energy production related to the strategic materials mentioned above. This included finding strategic partners and customers to expand markets for hardmetal tools used in the markets cited above, as well as identifying acquisition opportunities and integrating the operations of acquired companies into the new parent company.

Jim Oakes graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. in Material Science, as well as an M.B.A from Middle Tennessee State University. He has been awarded several patents related to hardmetals and their applications. He currently resides in the Huntsville, AL area.
