Robert M. Hathaway brings over 38 years of experience as a materials and process engineer, specializing in commercial and military vehicle design and production across both aerospace and ground vehicle platforms. His early career focused on the research and development of lightweight materials and their strategic integration into vehicle systems to improve performance and reduce costs.
Robert successfully secured and managed multi-year R&D funding from both internal OEM sources and U.S. government agencies, including NIST, DOE, and DOD. He played a key role in negotiating with these agencies to acquire funding that supported the development of cutting-edge, cost-effective technologies—providing OEMs with a competitive edge in the marketplace.
His leadership and technical accomplishments were recognized by the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee with an “Alumnus of the Year” award, and by the National Academies of Science through board-level involvement.
Through strategic budgeting and operational planning, Robert built and scaled a department of more than a dozen engineers and established a state-of-the-art laboratory. This facility not only supported R&D, but also performed critical functions such as failure analysis, materials and process selection, corrosion prevention, and the implementation of durability protocols. Notably, his work contributed to the successful achievement of a 22-year functional lifespan for U.S. Marine Corps platforms operating in highly corrosive environments.
He consistently developed and justified annual capital expenditures to expand lab capabilities and recruit top engineering talent—ensuring long-term technical scalability and operational excellence.
Throughout his career, Robert has demonstrated exceptional leadership in managing high-performing engineering teams and complex technical operations. He has cultivated a broad network of collaborators across industry and government, leading to partnerships that delivered measurable product outcomes. In addition to his technical achievements, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and presented at national and international conferences, where he shared insights on innovation, quality, and cost-efficiency—offering the industry market-leading, investment-worthy solutions.
